Generazioni Moderne presents...

Generazioni Moderne, partner of Young Innovations Europe, is glad to present the international meeting on “Youth Action on Climate Change” from 21st to 23rd October 2011. And we are happy to promote it!

The international meeting on “Youth Action on Climate Change”, held in Viterbo from 21st to 23rd October 2011, is organized by the association Generazione Moderne (Modern Generations) – a European forum of youth organizations – in partnership with the European Commission Youth in Action Program.  This conference is part of the European initiative “Power Shift” which aims to involve the youth in the debate about climate change before COP 17 in Durban.

The 3-day meeting will bring together youth associations, academics, national experts and members of civil society & NGOs in order to discuss about the European strategy to face climate change and also to address sustainable development at local level.

On Friday, October 21st Generazioni Moderne is organizing a roundtable on "Achieving Sustainable and Equitable Wellbeing: A Focus on Local Actions".

This will offer the opportunity to discuss some key issues for sustainable development in Italy such as food waste, recycling, water management. In this respect, the Italian organization will present some successful case studies from local realities both from Italy and other countries that joined the Power Shift Europe Network.

At the end of the roundtable participants will be provided with a list of policy options to promote sustainability in Italian municipalities.

By using the “World Café Methodology” they will be encouraged to draw and record their conversations on a piece of paper to capture free flowing ideas as they emerge. This will lead Generazioni Moderne to write and share a “Manifesto for Sustainability”. The document should include guidelines for municipalities in order to promote sustainable development and tackle climate change.

On Saturday, October 22nd the focus will be on the European strategy on Climate Change. In this regard, based on the experience of the "NATO Model", the youths will simulate the negotiation process within the Council of the European Union on EU position towards UN COP 17, in Durban, South Africa.

On the same day, Generazioni Moderne is also planning an "action" with bicycles in order to stress the importance of sustainable mobility in an urban space like Viterbo.

On Sunday, October 23rd it is organizing its annual assembly in order to elect the Spokesperson and the members of its Federal Council.
